Nicki Fiverson's passion for law was ignited long before she ever set foot in a courtroom. Growing up with a mother who worked as a criminal defense attorney, Nicki was immersed in stories of intense trial work and the pursuit of justice from a young age. Those early conversations didn't just spark curiosity; they shaped a calling. With a humanities-driven mind, Nicki has always approached challenges through a legal lens, whether crafting a persuasive essay, navigating a disagreement, or advocating for what's right. Her instinct has always been the same: form an argument, find the evidence, and stand behind it.

Currently a sophomore at The Morristown Beard School, Nicki's vision extends far beyond her own academic journey. Through her volunteer work at the Morristown Neighborhood House, where she works closely with 3rd and 4th-graders, Nicki began to notice a significant gap in how young children understood their rights, their responsibilities, and their relationship to justice. Rather than simply helping with homework, Nicki transformed each session into an opportunity, weaving critical thinking and civic awareness into everyday learning. Over time, she built genuine relationships with these children, coming to understand their learning patterns, natural strengths, and areas of curiosity.

What she discovered was both simple and profound: children are already practicing "lawful thinking" in their daily lives. Acts of sharing, honesty, and standing up for a friend aren't just good manners; they are the very principles that form the foundation of our legal system. These children weren't learning about justice from officials or institutions; they were learning it from each other, and from the world around them.

That realization became the seed of Justice for Juniors. Driven by the same values of fairness and equity that first drew her to law, Nicki set out to answer a central question: How do children develop their sense of justice, and what steps can an educator take to cultivate that understanding? Justice for Juniors is her answer. It is a bridge between a child's natural moral instincts and the broader principles of law, designed to inspire the next generation to see justice not as something distant, but as something they already live every day.

Justice for Juniors is compiled of various lesson plans surrounding civic justice, law, and government, tailored towards early elementary learners. The curriculum guide includes worksheets and interactive activities that enable students to not only memorize the material but also apply it to their everyday lives. The lessons utilize pedagogical strategies to cultivate the most advanced level of understanding among students. The 3 lessons cover topics such as Rules & Rights, The First Amendment, Respectful Debate, and The Fourteenth Amendment. Each lesson is discussion based, and structured to address any and all confusion that may arise. Overall, the Justice for Juniors curriculum works to enhance the critical thinking skills of Early Elementary Learnings, while familiarizing them with essential pillars of our society.
